El Segundo, CA -- Geosemble Technologies, Inc., has won a contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for its TILES system of linking online text and data sources with satellite imagery.
The TILES system (Text-to-Image Linking and Embedding System) will leverage Geosemble's existing technology for assigning textual keywords to geospatial datasets such as maps and imagery, as well as USC's technologies in summarizing text documents. The TILES system will apply multivariate techniques to superimpose summaries of related news articles and online information on top of target imagery. Subsequently, the system will also be able to link a range of media, including video and audio data and provide the data chronologically in an intuitive, user-friendly interface.
The resulting TILES system will allow a user to view a satellite image for any place in the world, and then automatically find and apply online text, video and mapping intelligence to that location in a way that saves significant time and manpower.
Users include military decision makers faced with vast amounts of data and an insufficient number of intelligence analysts, as well as commercial market users in the real estate industry, the oil and gas industry, highway transportation, news media, geological surveying, and other users of satellite imagery.
